Antonio Conte says Tottenham ace isn’t ‘pushed’ in training to avoid injury
Antonio Conte recounted his post-match press conference – according to Football London – that he ‘not push’ Tottenham star Lucas Moura into Tottenham training in order to get him back to his best physical condition and avoid injury.
Lucas, 30, returned from injury and came on as a substitute in Tottenham’s last two Premier League games. He got a few minutes in the 2-0 win over Everton and then the best 10-minute game against Manchester United.
But he couldn’t do anything about the result. Spurs were mediocre – and it’s becoming a regular pattern that Antonio Conte’s tactics don’t work against the front six. With Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison injured, having Lucas fit is paramount.
However, that is easier said than done. A few weeks ago, Lucas suffered a setback in his recovery. Conte spoke after the match about the Brazil international’s fitness. The Spurs boss says they are managing the winger carefully in training.
“Lucas Moura is recovering from a tendon injury. We try to keep him balanced, in training, to bring him to the best physical condition, we don’t push him. He took risks two years ago. weeks, stopping again.
Conte doesn’t push Tottenham star Lucas in training
Tottenham need Lucas. It was proven last night. They need options on the bench, but with Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski ruled out, they’re running out of options up top. Bryan Gil was on the bench, but he has yet to earn Conte’s trust.
Djed Spence and Ryan Sessegnon came off the bench at Old Trafford but ultimately Conte lacked the attacking options from the bench. He will be sure to mention this at his next meeting before the January window to Daniel Levy.
Although it’s a disappointing result for Spurs, it could be a blessing in disguise. This could be the perfect proof Conte needs to show Levy that more funding is needed in the next window. To bring more attacking talent to Tottenham.
