With less than three months to go until the November marathon, Ashton has been giving it his all while being regularly motivated to make a difference in life with the help of his family. “My basic ‘why’ comes down to leaving life better than what it was given to me. My daily motivation is my children and my family,” he explained.

Ashton’s interview about the upcoming marathon comes weeks after he went public with his battle with vasculitis, a rare condition that causes inflammation of blood vessels. “Like two years ago I had this weird, super rare form of vasculitis, which, like, destroyed my vision, it destroyed my hearing, it destroyed, like, all my balance,” he said. he said in an episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge appearance. “You don’t really appreciate him until he’s gone. Until you go, ‘I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to see again, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to hear again, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to walk again.'”
