The inhabitants of the Beninese metropolis hailed the governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, for the public lighting project underway in the metropolis, which stimulates economic activities and nightlife.

The administration’s street lighting initiative led by Governor Godwin Obaseki was designed to provide illumination at night and boost economic activity through a power purchase agreement with Ossiomo Power, a public partnership- private sector (PPP) which now generates 95 MW of electricity in its power station. in Ologbo, in the Ikpoba Okha local government area of ​​Edo State.

The company supplies electricity 24/7 to the Benin industrial park and supplies the lampposts of the Beninese metropolis, as well as public establishments, in particular the Secretary of State, the Government House, the hospital. specialist Edo, Stella Obasanjo hospital, among others.

Streetlights are currently active on Sapele Road, Airport Road, Kings Square, Akenzua Road, Oba Market, among others.

A cross-section of residents, who spoke to reporters over the weekend, praised the governor for taking this step through an innovative power purchase agreement, which spared taxpayers the burden of paying the tax. service via diesel generators, which is less cost effective.

Mr. Dennis Osaigbovo, who resides on Akenzua Road, expressed his gratitude to the governor for the initiative, noting that Akenzua, Stadium Road and surrounding areas now sport a new look at night.

“We are indeed satisfied with the public lighting initiative. It was announced that the governor was going to launch into the exercise, but we had not expected that he was going to be executed in this manner. This is obviously the product of deep reflection.

A business owner on the Airport Road, Mr. Emmanuel Akpan, said the initiative has boosted nightlife in the area as many people are now more comfortable doing business late at night. without fear.
