Basin seniors can get out of their homes and have fun with friends by participating in the activities below.
Murder Mystery Dinner
The annual Murder Mystery Dinner will take place in mid-October. Come in disguise and play a role in the mystery game. Who knows? We’ll find out at one of the center’s fun (and delicious!) main events.
Lunch at the center for the elderly
Join community members each weekday at noon at the Ephrata Senior Center at 124 C St. NW in Ephrata. Lunch consists of a hot starter, salads, vegetables, starch and homemade desserts. Refreshments are included. Meals are $7 for members and $8 for non-members. Dinners are also available, but reservations are encouraged. Contact the center by dialing 509-754-2382.
defensive driving course
Contact the senior center at 509-754-2382 to register for a defensive driving course. The Evergreen Safety Council course is six hours long and can help seniors get a discount on their car insurance, if their insurance provider participates in the program. (Call your insurer to ask if they participate.)
Join Instructor Terry Troutman for Yoga Beginners every Tuesday at the Senior Center. Register online by clicking the Center link at the top of the Ephrata Senior Center website at ephrataseniorcenter.org. Classes are $22 per month or $8.50 per walk-in session. The Ephrata Senior Center also offers Stay Active & Independent for Life — SAIL — classes free of charge 2-3 times a week.
The Ephrata Senior Center operates a thrift store for seniors. The boutique offers a wide variety of products and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday to Friday each week. Contact the store, located at 604 Basin Street NW at 509-754-9605.
The Moses Lake Seniors Center offers lunch for seniors at noon Monday through Friday. A donation of $4 is suggested for those over 60, although meals are provided free for those who cannot afford to donate. For those under 60 there is a cost of $8 per person. The menu can be found at moseslakeseniorcenter.org.
Shuffle the deck, deal a hand, and enjoy friendly competition in a hand or three of pinochle with other seniors every Tuesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
learn the bridge
Drop by the senior center at 10 a.m. for bridge lessons. Learn to play the classic card game, then spend time practicing your new skills during the community bridge game from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Cut a rug!
Come dance on Monday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is a live band with refreshments and the cost is only $4 per person.
Third Thursday Dinner
Join your neighbors at the Othello Senior Center from 5-7 p.m. for dinner in good company. The cost is $15 per plate and the center is located at 755 N. Seventh Ave. in Othello.
Stop at the senior center
Enjoy a variety of activities at the Quincy Senior Center at 522 F St. SE in downtown Quincy. The center can be reached by phone at 509-787-3231.
Join other seniors
Stop at the HE Gritman Senior Center at 118 W. Main Ave. in Ritzville for a variety of activities throughout August. Call 509-659-1921 for event information. The center can also be contacted at [email protected]
