Centra will honor healthcare heroes with parades and fun activities during National Hospital Week
All week long, caregivers are honored and thanked at Centra with fun activities, events, parades and meals. That’s it for National Hospital Week, which kicked off on May 8 and will run until the 15th.
Parades are an opportunity to take a moment and recognize those who help our friends, family and community every day. The pandemic has shone a light on the importance of our healthcare workers. This year’s theme is “Stronger Together: Embracing the Future”.
Centra is asking the community to come out and show their appreciation on May 11 during each parade, which begins at noon.
The parade in Lynchburg will visit the campuses of Lynchburg General and Virginia Baptist. The parade in Bedford will circle the block of Bedford Memorial Hospital.
This is a time to come together and celebrate the caregivers in our community. There will be 74 organizations marching in the parade. In Lynchburg, some of them include the Liberty University School of Nursing, the Hillcats, the Harley Davidson Group, local law enforcement, and several other organizations.
“We had a great turnout last year. It was our first annual parade, and there was a lot of community involvement, and so we decided to go ahead and have our second parade as well, and we far exceeded our expectations by compared to what happened last year,” said Scott Thompson, human resources manager. Consultant for Centra, said.
Centra kicked off the hospital week with a pancake breakfast at each of its major campuses. Everyone was able to pass and get free food. They’ve also scheduled free fitness classes, nutrition cooking tutorials, art classes, and wellness check-ins.
“This is just our opportunity to show how much we appreciate the work they do every day and how much it means to us as a leadership team,” said Aubrey Varraux, head of Total Rewards for Centra. . “They pour out to our patients every day, and then of course to our community, that we are here and we are a strong beacon of hope for our community and its members.”
