Lewis Hamilton has revealed he has a strict approach when it comes to not doing any off-track activity that could harm his F1 preparation.

According to the Mercedes driver, the demands of the sport keep increasing every year and the drivers have to give their full attention to every aspect.

He said racingnews365:

“My priority is my work here with the team, but we only race weekends. There’s time in between to do the work I do with Mission 44, I’m able to steer the ship still on this, for example.

“But if I know it’s going to affect my preparation, like taking me away from my training or my time with the team, or possibly impacting our race weekend, that’s a big no. is with friends, with relations, what [F1] is what I focus on.”

Hamilton has explained how being athletic from childhood has helped him maintain high performance levels in F1. He said:

“Ever since I was a kid I was good at athletics, so I had that natural level [of fitness]. But to be able to move to another level, and especially as we get older, it becomes more difficult for all of us.”

“You have to be more meticulous with your diet and your training” – Lewis Hamilton on his F1 training

Lewis Hamilton also explained how he started being very meticulous in his training to prolong his career and ensure he performs at a high level. He said:

“[You have to] be more meticulous with your diet and training. For example, [I was] doing Pilates Reformer with a good friend of mine who is an Olympic athlete. It was so funny because it’s something we’ve never really done before.

“I did Pilates, but I just added different things that I wouldn’t normally do and I was more specific in my daily routine, much more than when I was 22. I wasn’t doing things [then] what I’m doing today.”

He added:

“So it’s definitely a conscious decision, and it’s also just my mental well-being, enough to find balance in my life. Being very, very protective of your energy and where you spend your time .”

Lewis Hamilton has suggested he is looking to extend his career at Mercedes with a multi-year contract. It will be interesting to see when (or if) the deal is finalized.
