Man United boosted, Anthony Martial back in first-team training
Anthony Martial has returned to first-team training for the past 24 hours.
Manchester United’s struggles in the first two games were evident. Erik ten Hag’s men are playing nothing like they were on the pre-season tour, with confidence already through the ground.
There’s no doubt that Anthony Martial’s absence was quite significant. After all, the substitutions haven’t been particularly encouraging. Christian Eriksen just can’t play that role while Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t want to be here.
I like to believe that when the Frenchman returns, the whole starting line-up will start to perform a little better.
Good, Athletic’s Adam Crafton has big news for us in that regard, with United having received a fitness boost from Martial.
Apparently, the key man is now back in first-team training after missing Brighton and Brentford matches.
Martial was effectively sidelined for two weeks so it remains to be seen where he stands in terms of fitness.
The good news is that United don’t play until Monday night, so the former AS Monaco man has around a week to get in shape to start this game.
Martial looked electric on the Australian leg of United’s pre-season tour, so we all hope he can put up a similar display at home against Liverpool in a hugely important game for the whole club.
I’d like to think United’s number nine is someone who will not only be a direct upgrade to whoever he replaces, Martial will also help get the most out of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford. Both fought in the first two weeks of the 2022/23 campaign.
Fingers crossed Martial is fit enough to start. We are absolutely going to need him.
