Marines from Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana among 4 killed in training exercise
CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Marines from Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana are among four killed during a training exercise in Norway last week, the Marine Corps said in a statement that they tweeted Sunday night.
The Marines were all assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 261, Marine Aircraft Group 26, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing stationed on Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina.
They have been identified as:
- Artillery Sergeant. James W. Speedy, 30, of Cambridge, Ohio
- Cpl. Jacob M. Moore, 24, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky
- Captain Matthew J. Tomkiewicz, 27, of Fort Wayne, Indiana
- Captain Ross A. Reynolds, 27, of Leominster, Massachusetts
The bodies of the four Marines have been recovered and are being transported to the United States, the statement said.
The Marines were in Norway as part of NATO’s major biannual Cold Response exercise.
