Dare County announced that masks are no longer mandatory for those participating in certain indoor physical activities in the Northern Beach Division of the Dare County Parks and Recreation Department, Roanoke Island / Mainland Division and Hatteras Island Division, as well as the Thomas A. Baum Senior Center in Kill Devil Hills and the Dare County Center in Manteo.

This change is in line with the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for masking and strenuous activity.

These activities include pickleball, dancing, basketball for youth and adults, wrestling, gymnastics, open gym and fitness classes. Masks should continue to be worn while individuals enter the building and until they reach the area where their activity will take place, and masks should also be worn when exiting the building.
