No big surprises on the Long Island Nets training camp roster

The Long Island Nets released their training camp roster on Monday and there were no surprises … just a large number of 2021 rookies NBA Draft to classify.

In addition to the team’s two first-round picks – Cam Thomas (LSU) and Day’Ron Sharpe (North Carolina), the camp includes the two Nets two-way players – David Duke (Providence) and Kessler Edwards (Pepperdine), Brooklyn’s two end-of-round picks, Marcus Zegarowski (Creighton ) and RaiQuan Gray (Florida State) as well as Summer Leaguer Brandan Rachal (Tulsa) and local essay Nojel Eastern (Purdue and Howard.) That makes eight in all.

The roster also has seven G League veterans, including three GM Matt Riccardi traded in the offseason and one he drafted. There were also three local tryouts, including Eastern, at the camp, which opened Monday in Westbury, Long Island, at the Yes We Can Community Center.

This will be Adam Caporn’s first as head coach. The well-respected Caporn comes from Australia to Long Island where, among other things, he was an assistant coach of the bronze medal-winning Australian Olympic team and director of the Basketball Australia Center of Excellence.

Karl Trounson, who was a strength and conditioning coach for the Australian team during the Olympics, will join Long Island in the same role. He is the fourth Australian to work with the Nets organization as a performance.

Ben Strong, the new Chief Video / Player Development Coordinator, is also joining the organization. He had previously worked for the 76ers and Suns.

The Long Island Nets will officially kick off the 2021-22 season on the road on Saturday November. 6, against the Delaware Blue Coats. Long Island will then host the Capital City Go-Go in the team’s home opener four days later at the Nassau Coliseum.
