warangal: The Vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University (KU), Professor Thatikonda Ramesh, urged students to actively participate in sports and games as they would help overcome stress, and also build leadership qualities, a sportsmanship, improve decision-making skills and discipline. .

Along with Husnabad MP and KITSW Additional Secretary Vodithala Satish Kumar inaugurated the three-day “Men’s Inter-College Tournaments (Phase I)” hosted by the Physical Education Department of the Institute of Technology and of Kakatiya Science (KITS), Warangal, here on Saturday.

“Participating in the games at the district level can also provide you with opportunities to participate at the national level. It will instill national integrity and cultivate brotherhood within the student community. There are 1,200 players from 41 different colleges taking part in six types of games like shuttle badminton, basketball, table tennis, chess, volleyball and football in the tournaments of former Warangal districts , Adilabad and Khammam under the jurisdiction of KU,” Prof. Ramesh said.

KITSW MP and Additional Secretary Vodithala Satish Kumar said KITSW has incorporated games and sports into the program and allocated two periods per week in the regular schedule.

“Physical education is one of the fundamental subjects that preserves the physical condition of students. It is also an integral part of undergraduate education. Students can use the sports facilities like a well-equipped indoor stadium, gymnasium, playing fields comprising 25 acres of land for outdoor games like football, volleyball, cricket and tennis on our campus” , said Satish.

KU Sports Council Secretary and Professor of Chemistry, T Savitha Jyotsna, said sports and games were pillars of students’ health and bright future.

Administrative Officer and Physical Education Teacher, KITS, Warangal, P Ramesh Reddy said that students’ active participation in games and sports could also improve communication skills and inter and intra-personal skills. He advised players to take inspiration from legendary sportsmen like Virat Kohli, Neeraj Chopra, Vishwanathan Anand, PV Sindhu and PT Usha.

HoD, Physical Education, KITSW, Dr M Srinivas Reddy, Dr ATBT Prasad, HoD and PRO Dr D Prabhakara Chary, Venkataswamy, Nagaraju, Mahesh, Dr Bhaskar, Dr Somanna, Dr Prabhakar, Sunil Reddy and K.
