Reality star Luke McLeod reveals the benefits of meditation

He’s known for starring in reality TV show The Bachelorette, but Luke McLeod says he prefers his day job – teaching meditation to cleanse the mind and body.

He is best known for his good looks and physique that wins you the plum

gigs on reality TV shows like The Bachelorette and The Bachelor In Paradise, but Luke McLeod says he’d rather be appreciated for his wit than his brawn.

“I love trying and teaching new and interesting types of meditation, from Transcendental Meditation to Vipassana,” says the 34-year-old.

“Meditation is my job so I get to practice a lot of it.”

McLeod recently launched a new meditation app called Soul Alive and vows to make meditation a daily practice for optimal mental health.

“I would say meditation is probably the number one exercise I do to keep my mind in good shape,” McLeod says.

“Meditation for the mind is like going to the gym for your body. It cleans out ‘fat’, removes waste, and makes you feel healthier.”

A strong advocate for mental health, McLeod says it’s a topic that shouldn’t be stigmatized and people should never feel embarrassed to speak up if they need help.

“If someone is feeling self-conscious about their mental health condition, I think it’s really important to first recognize that everyone, at some point, has mental health issues.

health, just like at some point in almost everyone’s life, they’re going to struggle with their physical health,” he says.

“Once you’ve met someone where they are and reassured them that everything is fine, it’s about helping them see and approach their mental health in a positive way. Show them that meditation can be a fun, enjoyable, and powerful practice.

As for all the men who think they don’t need meditation or mindfulness, or believe they don’t

a masculine chase, McLeod is quick to point out some greats who used him to soar to

incredible heights.

“Meditation has made me more of a man than anything I’ve done in my life,” he says.

“It made me more confident, clear and calm – all qualities of a great man, I think. If they don’t want to take my word for it, then look at Steve Jobs and Muhammad Ali –

both the best in their field, and both meditated regularly. The proof is in the pudding.”

Luke McLeod on…

Exercise

“I train in the gym three to four times a week, surf when I can, and do a fair bit of stretching too. Your body is your vessel to do work while you are on this planet, so you must take care of it. Exercise also helps improve your mental state and is wonderful for releasing static energy. Then, once that’s over, try some meditation. It’s like putting the icing on the cake and it will do wonders for your mental health.

Sleep

“Sleep is so important – it’s the essential time needed to recharge our batteries. For me, I need close to eight hours every night, so establishing a routine really helps with that – training your body clock to know when it’s time to go to sleep and wake up. I’m almost at a point where I now wake up a few minutes before my alarm goes off every morning. I also like to take magnesium almost every night.

mindfulness

“If you want to live a life that has truly been ‘lived’, then mindfulness is the vehicle to get you there. It is the practice of truly teaching yourself to live, to be here now, and to embrace all aspects of the life.
