Romelu Lukaku gives Chelsea training a boost ahead of Crystal Palace semi-final

Romelu Lukaku has returned to training this week and could be available for Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace.

The 28-year-old has missed the Blues’ last three games – two against Real Madrid and Southampton’s 6-0 thrashing – with Achilles tendon pain.

Now Chelsea travel to Wembley on Sunday and Lukaku, along with his team-mates, suffered defeat in February’s Carabao Cup final.

They are hoping for an immediate rebound, but in the semi-finals and not the final, and the Belgium international could be available for selection.

Head coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed the striker is back in training and in contention to face Crystal Palace at Wembley.

“Everyone seems to be fine” replied to Tuchel regarding team news. There are still two training sessions to go so I’m crossing my fingers.

“Romelu was back in training yesterday, let’s see if he reacts or not. Everyone should be fine.”

If Lukaku is fit for Sunday, he will face a battle to start. Kai Havertz and Mason Mount, if fit, will likely be guaranteed starting roles at Wembley.

Timo Werner has scored three goals in his last two games, giving him a huge confidence boost, and will be pushing for a start he believes he deserves. Christian Pulisic will face a battle to prove he is worthy of a start after a disappointing midweek performance in Spain.
