Romelu Lukaku injured in training and could miss the Milan derby

Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku injured his left thigh muscle in training today and could miss the Milan derby next week, according to Sky Italy.

The Belgian received the blow on Sunday morning as the team prepared to face US Cremonese on Tuesday. He will undergo further tests on Monday to see how serious the injury is.

Unless Lukaku shows signs of fitness over the next few hours, he is unlikely to be in the squad for Inter Milan’s game against city rivals AC Milan on Saturday. .

The Chelsea striker will miss the home game against Massimiliano Alvini’s side on Tuesday. He could also miss the Milan derby, depending on Monday’s test results.

Simone Inzaghi will sweat over the physical condition of her star striker.

Lukaku has returned to Inter Milan on loan after a disappointing spell in England with Chelsea. The 29-year-old continued where he left off in the 2020/21 season.

It took just 90 seconds for Lukaku for the former Anderlecht, Everton and Manchester United player to make an impact on the Nerazzurri.

In the second minute of Inter’s Serie A opener against Lecce, Lukaku opened the scoring. He climbed the highest and scored for his team with a well-guided header. Inter won the match 2-1.

In the next match against Spezia, he also made an impression. Lukaku provided the assist for Lautaro Martinez to score the opening goal in their 3-0 win.

Joaquin Correa hasn’t lived up to expectations and Edin Dzeko is showing his age. Lukaku is a crucial cog in Inzaghi’s team.

If Lukaku misses the Milan derby, the club hope to at least get him back in the squad for their Champions League group opener against Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

They will need all the firepower they can muster against the Rekordmeister. Inter Milan are in the group of death this season along with Bayern, Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen.
