“Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” Offers Free Memorial Weekend Activities

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Memorial Day is a time when we reflect on and honor the ultimate sacrifices of the many men and women who served in the United States military. As we enjoy our freedoms on this national holiday, take a moment to give thanks.

To commemorate the holidays, join us for free “Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” classes and walk/run races this weekend. While you’re at the water’s edge, we invite you to explore Sherrill Veterans Memorial Park, where the city has dedicated an area to the memory of our servicemen and women.

Meet us at the Islanders Pavilion by the water this Saturday May 28, for our free classes: ‘Back to the basics of fitness’, yoga and zumba. All attendees receive a punch card to register each Saturday attended. A completed punch card is eligible for a prize.

Join free “Memorial Day 5K/10K” events on Monday, May 30, at 7:30 a.m. to The water’s edge. These events are sponsored by State Representative Todd Hunter and the City of Corpus Christi. Hurry to register for the 5K or 10K event!

The path to fitness the route begins along the seawall at The Water’s Edge, heading north towards the American Bank Center, with the U-turn just before the barge dock entrance. Walk, jog, run or cycle along the designated 1.5 mile event fitness lane (one way). Our community partner, HEB, provides fruit and water to all attendees.

In coordination with Victor Betancourt of VFit Productions and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, the city is offering “Safe Fun-Fit at the Bayfront” exercise and wellness events for ages eight and up, of all ages. abilities and skill levels, Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Water’s Edge, 402 S. Shoreline Boulevard. “Back to Basics” fitness, yoga and Zumba will take place at the Islanders Pavilion next to the playground. The course schedule is available online.

Register online for fitness classes and the 5K event at www.cctexas.com/safefunfit. Class sessions are limited to 30 participants per class. Participants are encouraged to bring their own yoga mat and water, if available, for their workout.
