Ten Hag ‘orders to cut grass and makes food request’ before training

New Manchester United chief Erik ten Hag reportedly issued specific orders to his training ground staff in a bid to encourage his players to practice smooth passing in the first week of pre-season.

The Red Devils will get their first taste of the Dutchman’s management methods at Carrington when the team return to training on June 27.

In an effort to prioritize drills on the ball in opening sessions, Ten Hag reportedly told his staff to cut the grass to exactly 15mm, so players could quickly catch up on his demands for exceeding.

The former Ajax manager will measure his players’ general fitness during the first two days of training, but plans to test their stamina with passing drills rather than physical conditioning drills, according to the Mirror.

Ten Hag is also keen to foster a positive team spirit in the Red Devils dressing room and as a result has insisted that the squad should eat together and socialize after training.

Old Trafford legend Sir Alex Ferguson made similar demands during his 26 years at the club, but that culture has since evaporated within the camp.

Players have become accustomed to eating at the staff restaurant whenever they wish, with some even returning home or to the gym directly after practice.

As part of the new food routine, Ten Hag and his backroom staff will accompany players during meals.

Manchester United embarked on a pre-season tour of Australia and Southeast Asia in July.

As it stands, Ten Hag’s troops will first face Liverpool in Bangkok, then travel to Melbourne to play Crystal Palace before finishing the tour against Aston Villa in Perth.
